There and Back Again: A Sisters Tale

Wow, so this is way weird. I remember at the end of my first transfer Sister Pendleton writing her last email, she asked what she should title it and I gave her this sick Lord Of The Rings referenced title. I promised to give my last email the same title, at the time that seemed worlds away but now here we are.
Mission culture has lots of funny terms about birth, death, parents and children because in it's own way a mission is like a life, or at least that's how it feels. Not because the time passed by slow (only sometimes) but because on a mission you change, grow and learn what seems like a life's worth, in a single eighteen months or two years. And now at the end I feel a bittersweet nostalgia for everything I ́m about to leave behind. Like I ́m dying, though I conveniently remember the next life I ́ll be going back to. I described it to my companion using that scene from The Chronicles of Narnia where they all shuffle back through the wardrobe after having lived out there life in Narnia, only to come back as children. That pretty accurately describes my mood.
It's funny how leaving my family behind on the MTC curb seems like yesterday but my first transfer seems years ago. After talking for a bit with Sister Pierson I realized it ́s because I no longer identify much with the Lia Bradley who I left on the curb, I ́m not exactly sure where she's been this whole time but I know for a fact that Sister Bradley has come a long long way. It ́ll be interesting to see how it is the two of them meet up as I go through boxes and memories making ends meet.
I loved my mission, I can say that it was in fact the best decision I ́ve made in my life coming out here. It wasn't always easy or straightforward. I have been pushed to my limits and full capacity, but every single second was worth it. I ́ve heard people comment a couple times about how blessed we are to get the chance to be missionaries, how the Lord could ́ve spread the gospel in any way, could ́be made rocks talk if he wanted to. But he didn´t, he sent us teenagers and I ́m so grateful he did because I know that I needed this. I ́ve loved taking in part in helping people, watching them and their lives change, watching the true power of the gospel take effect over and over. As well as I ́ve loved seeing it in my own life, feeling closer to my Father and Savior through taking part in Their work.
I was a long shot from being a perfect missionary. I don't ́t know all the inspired questions, I ́ve taught some pretty mediocre lessons, I haven't contacted the whole of Cabo Verde and not so deep down, I still loathe waking up at 6:30. But I'm glad the Lord sent me here to serve with a bunch of other imperfect kids to share His Gospel. I ́m grateful for the chance to give other people their chance. I love the people here so much and I know I needed them probably way more than they needed me but I've loved seeing their journeys and taking part in their stories of conversion.
Essentially what I ́m getting at with all this, is that the mission is the best. I recommend serving to anyone and everyone. And I want to say thanks to all the people who've helped, supported, taught and influenced me throughout the entire experience. I love you all and hope to see you all soon.

Deep Breathly

Hi,
Getting old is weird and I don't like it. Just so you know. But this week has been a special one, no matter how much time I have on the mission, I never stop learning nor realizing just how little and imperfect I am, haha. But I ́m so grateful for the chance our Father in Heaven gives us to do and be something more through his works. I love Sister Pierson, I may be her mom, but she ́s taught me so much. "The end", honestly kind of a weird and stressful time but it's good, God is good and Christmas season is amazing! So grateful for every last moment to be here. Everybody remember to sing some Christmas music (we're singing a loooot of Christmas music) and light the world!!!

Angels? We Have Heard On High

Hello Family!
It's been another good week. I travelled to Praia once again to pick up my greenie. She's a cutie, she speaks the language really well already and I honestly don't think I could ́ve chosen myself a better last comp. The work is moving forward, after passing a lot of time outside of the area for the past couple weeks we ́re starting at square one, lol, lots and lots of contacting. Which of course always makes for some fun and interesting experiences, but always cool to meet new people and make new friends. People here are super nice and open (usually).
We had a particularly interesting first lesson with a man who was very adamant  that we should be holding our sabbath day worship on saturday. It was honestly just kinda funny how he couldn ́t stop talking about or move on from the subject, but it got me thinking about how everyone kinda does that sometimes. We let one doubt hold us back from learning something bigger, we may become so focused on our doubts we can't even make sense of it enough to receive an answer. For some, they replace their testimonies and beliefs with doubts... When we focus on growing our testimonies, when we focus on Christ, He empowers us to overcome and answer doubts. When we let our doubts grow, they don't just consume our testimonies but they also destroy our relationship with God. So, just to echo Elder Uchtdorf ́s wisdom: "Doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith".
Annnnyyyyways, that's about all I ́ve got for today, but I wish you all a lovely week and encourage everyone to keep up Lighting the World this christmas season.

I love all the amazing people I've had the opportunity to meet while being here, the mission truly has been the best thing I´ve done in my life, hope you all enjoy the pictures and everybody make sure to start lighting the world!!! Happy December!

Perfect Guy But....

Hey Fam! Yeah so as you can see it's Tuesday! We went to Mindelo for mission tour which left us with basically no time to email this week :/ buuuut it´s been amazing! Mission tour was great but it´s been even better visiting my recent converts and friends here in Monte Sossego!!! I love seeing them again and their reactions when I pop up in the doorway! I thought I ́d never get to come back here so today has been a massive blessing! I love the mission and the opportunity to be here to serve and love all these people, they've changed my life!

What So I´m Snotty and I´m Not Gonna Get Married!

Hey Fam!!! Wow, this week was really cool, we had two baptisms! Which is always a fun time, even if the primary activity in our branch ran late into our baptism and we ended up with more kids at our baptism than should ever be in one place at one time. Hahaha, kind of a mess and lots of cleaning in the aftermath, but we were just happy to get our boys baptised!
This week we also made lots of cool new friends! Including a drunk man that crashed one of our lessons and turned out to be a less active *face palm* haha, but I think we got street cred with our investigators for handling the situation so well because afterwards they were super excited to mark with us to talk again, lol. We also went on a fun adventure to palmeira for a zone activity, so I hope yáll enjoy the pics.
This week me and Sister Dille also spent a lot of time talking about the justice and mercy of God and how essentially as long as we do right by God we don't have to worry about much anything else. Which, tbh, sometimes can be a serious test of faith because were human and satan plays dirty, but so long as we trust in Christ, it´ll all work out in the end, which is just a comforting thing to rely on :) we ́ve also gotten sucked into a couple of talks about the celestial language, lol, but we've yet to come to any serious conclusion if anyones got ideas about that.
Love you all and hope yall have an amazing week <3

There Aint No Platypus Controlling ME!

Hey Fam!!!
Wow, what a week! This week went by really fast but at the same time tons happened, so that's always fun. To start it off I went to Praia for MLC which is always an adventure, travel and sleep deprivation on the mission really is just something else. Hahaha, also another fun fact is that Sal is the only island with a solo zone leader so I went to mlc just me and Elder Alfaro, hahaha, totally adding him to my PMG comp. list, jk jk. But MLC was amazing especially because my entire mtc group was there!!! A reunion to say the least. We also had some other adventures amidst travel, new shoes, black cats, family nights, deep doctrine and apple cinnamon cake. Sometimes email just can't capture all that really goes on in the mission. But I ́m so grateful to be here helping my cape verdean friends, preaching the gospel and having all these silly little adventures and growing experiences along the way.
Scripture story for y'all to read this week is Ether chapters 1-3. It´s a goodie! Something I especially like to think about when I read this story is, how can I prepare myself, my life or strengthen my faith, so that I can receive the blessing of the Lord? Yep, hope y'all have fun with that one! Love you all so much, everybody write down some things your grateful for and get ready to light the world!
